Carolyn Clark Powers

Philanthropist, President of Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles

Carolyn Clark Powers is a dedicated philanthropist and arts patron. In 2019, Ms. Powers made a generous gift of $10 million to allow MOCA to have FREE General Admission. Her commitment to giving back is sparked by the idea that art is a connector to be freely experienced by all. Ms. Powers is the President of the Board of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Los Angeles. In Aspen, Ms. Powers served on the Board of Directors of the Aspen Art Museum, the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, and Jazz Aspen Snowmass; on the National Council for the Aspen Center for Integrative Health; and as a President Society Fellow at the Aspen Institute. In Los Angeles, Ms. Powers has served on various support groups for the Music Center, including the Board of Directors for Blue Ribbon, the Center Dance Association, P.S. Arts, the Board of Overseers for the Los Angeles Philharmonic; and is currently a Board Member for the Grammy Museum. Ms. Powers is a Founder/Board Member of The Painted Turtle, one of Paul Newman’s camps for children with serious illnesses. Ms. Powers is a Leadership Circle Member of Visionary Women’s Advisory Board, which supports and provides resources for women in need. At the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Ms. Powers Chaired the National Committee for the Performing Arts as Chair and continues on their Executive Committee. Ms. Powers Chaired the Americans for the Art’s National Arts Awards and is the namesake of its annual Carolyn Clark Powers Lifetime Achievement Award, bestowed to such luminaries as Tony Bennett, Herbie Hancock, Sophia Loren, Mavis Staples, and the painter Luchita Hurtado. Ms. Powers developed and produced a documentary, To Be of Service, which influenced President Biden to sign into law the PAWs ACT to provide a service dog to all military veterans who suffer from PTSD. Ms. Powers resides in Los Angeles, California.
