Kelsey Ann Kasom
Born in Detroit and raised in the countryside of Michigan, this is where Kelsey Ann Kasom began anchoring her creativity as a form of expressionism. As an artist and designer, Kelsey redefines how space is valued sculpturally both on and off the body. Philosophically, her work is grounded in thoughtful symbolism, evident in her attention to detail. Kelsey explores conflicting sensations through the indescribable need to exhaust material iterations - challenging the technical properties of what’s known and then celebrating what something can become. The movement of her shapes wraps around the body like a cycle of experienced time.
"Protruding from the hip, opening at the chest for air, encasing the body. Draping for me is a rhythm of make. It is a safe space to translate feeling into form," Kelsey describes. She sees this as a pure reflection of intensity beyond reason that can consume the self, by creating so passionately that pain takes the form of pleasure. She creates with the intention to heal.
After graduating with an MA in Womenswear Fashion from the Royal College of Art, Kelsey was selected to be part of the Arts Thread Global Design Graduate Show in collaboration with Gucci. Her work has been exhibited globally, recognized for her creativity embodying the hyper-ability of the dyslexic mind, inspiring climate action, new fashion narratives, reimagining materiality, and innovation for the future of fashion. Kelsey was named one of the Top 50 Influential Neurodivergent Women of 2023 by Women Beyond The Box.
