Tory Burch is the Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Tory Burch.
Tory grew up in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, and studied art history at theUniversity of Pennsylvania. She moved to New York in the1990s and worked forZoran,Harper’s Bazaar, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang, and Loewe.Tory launched hercollection in 2004. Anchored in the casual elegance ofAmerican sportswear, her concept was to build aluxurylifestyle brand thatwould support a foundation for women’s empowerment. What began with aboutique in New York and an e-commerce site has since grown into a globalbusinesswith 370 stores.
For nearly 15 years, Tory served as bothcreative directorand CEObeforechoosing to focusexclusively on design. In 2019, Pierre-Yves Roussel joined thecompany as CEO after 15 years as Chairman and CEO of LVMH Fashion Group.
Tory’s collections have evolved, becoming more personal and intuitive. Herdesign philosophy is defined byeffortless silhouettes,innovative materials,eclectic juxtapositionsof color, and the tension of past and present.Empowering women is Tory’s guiding principle, expressed through hercollections and her work at the Tory Burch Foundation.
Established in 2009, theFoundation provides women entrepreneurs in the United States with capital,education, and community. Every Tory Burchproductsupports the Foundation’swork to empower women. Through her unique hybrid model, Tory has created aparadigm for authentic brand purpose.
Tory has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including theCFDA for Accessory Designer of the Year, the Parsons School of Design’s TableAward,Forbes’s Most Powerful Women in the World, andthe Breast CancerResearch Foundation’s Sandra Taub Humanitarian Award. Her first book,ToryBurch In Color(Abrams, 2014), was aNew York TimesBest Seller, and herdesigns have been featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s CostumeInstitute.
